Reclaimed Granite, Historic Graceland Cemetery, Chicago, IL
In rebuilding the entrance to Chicago’s Graceland Cemetery, a key challenge was to use stones that would maintain the subdued sense of history mixed with a welcoming beauty. Using Reclaimed Granite Curbstone not only fulfills the vision but serves as a poignant reminder of the past for this new entrance to this space—along with a newly installed metalwork arch. The cemetery, on Chicago’s North Side, is the final resting place for many well-known Chicagoans of yesteryeas including baseball player Ernie Banks, boxer Jack Johnson, railroad engineer and industrialist George Pullman, and department store magnate Marshall Field, among others.
